Why I Decided To Home School My Child
I never thought that I would home school my child until my daughter became miserable in school. She didn't feel like she integrated very well, or that the teachers paid her any attention. What was arguably more serious and worrying was that her grades were slipping. I started to do a lot of research on the Internet to see if there was anything that I could do to help her, and after careful consideration I came to the decision to home school my child.
Home schooling is actually becoming more popular throughout the country. Parents are viewing it as a way of providing a safe and controlled learning environment for their children. It may seem like a daunting task to take on the responsibility for educating your child, but there are actually many homeschool resources available on the Internet to assist you.
Homeschooling programs provide learning materials, suggested curricula, and examinations with national accreditation. The parent themselves only has to determine their child's learning style, decide what specifically they want to teach, and how to deliver the lesson. This one to one relationship will not only be beneficial for the child, but it will also encourage a healthy relationship between them and their parent.
In order to successfully home school your child, there are a few important things you need to have in place. Firstly, you need to ensure that you have the free time necessary to be able to teach your child. Whilst one of the benefits to homeschooling is having the flexibility to arrange your own schedule, you must strictly enforce time for learning. Many parents create a home school schedule that best meets the schedules of those in the home. You also need to have a dedicated area in your home set aside for learning, with no potential distractions.
If these conditions are met, then there is nothing to prevent you from home schooling your child. Using the resources at your disposal it is a fairly straightforward process to work through the learning materials with your child. It is also an incredibly rewarding experience, both in terms of spending quality time with your child, and also in brushing up on your knowledge in order to be able to teach.
If you are unsure about whether to start homeschooling, or are looking for advice or support about the best methods for homeschooling, then it will be very beneficial to contact your local home school group. These can be found by doing an Internet search in the same way as the homeschooling programs can. Becoming acquainted with other like-minded people who are also home schooling their children provides an invaluable support network where resources, ideas, and advice can be shared.
I have no doubts that the decision to home school my child was the correct one. She is now outgoing and confident, and she is enjoying learning. She is doing very well with her school work, and what's more I have enjoyed the experience of teaching her.
